I have had a soft spot for the Scorpio since the very beginning. And every time, I've driven one, I have rather liked it a bit more. As cars and SUVs go, it is far from flawless, but it's got what journalists will resort to calling character, that too in spades. You get used to the shuddering over bumps, the waywardness when cornering at high speeds or over poor roads, and all of that. But you fall in love with that indestructible feel of the thing. The mHawk is no different in that nature. The engine's rather likable. Frugal enough to not intrude into the experience, fast enough to make the brakes feel less able than they are and peppy enough to blow away dawdling drivers in traffic.
I do have things I don't like, like the completely missing indicators for many of the Scorpio's gizmos. Can I not have an LED that lights up when I switch the cruise control or the automatic wipers on? How about a visual warning for low fuel rather than that rather irritating gentleman who pipes up? Do I really need to be reminded about the 'powerful vehicle' I'm driving every single time? But m pet hate is the music system. I love its SD card and USB slots, but the buttons are tiny. There's no way you can find them in a moving car, and doesn't matter if you're the driver either.
But all this doesn't really matter much. The Scorpio, in heavy traffic or on the highway, is a calm place to be in. You tune into its languid wavelength and you will find it a blissful drive that will produce surprisingly high average speeds a feeling of satisfaction - and over really bumpy roads - a right laugh as it handles it with aplomb, and then wanders and shudder just enough to make you pay attention again in a hurry. I simply cannot wait for the next opportunity to drive one, so I am a little sad that someone from Mahindra reminded us to return it Damn, just when I was getting ready to slip out of town with it.
