It’s now the turn of the Chaebol to make hybrid cars, Korean auto major Hyundai Motor Corporation has said that it will develop its own hybrid technology, which is likely to see the light of day by 2010. In the pipeline are hybrid variants of the Accent Sonata and Avante Sedans.

Seok San Jang, a senior vice president for Hyundai’s international business operations, said, “We have been slow in the field so far but have aggressive plans given the fact that high oil prices have made hybrids almost a necessity now. From next year, we will sell hybrid cars in Korea and by 2010 we will be selling them all over the world.” What’s more, Hyundai is planning hybrid systems for smaller cars as well. And since India is the global hub of small cars for India, Jang added that hybrids for smaller cars will also eventually come from India.
