Gujarat has bagged the Nano. After the problems faced by the Tata motors over Singur, the company has finally selected a 1,100 acre plot in Sanand, near Ahmedabad, for its small car project. The land is being brought at prices somewhat higher than market rates, while the state of Gujarat has offered sops as well as infrastructure to Tata Motors to enable easy and quick transition to the west-India state. The first of the Nanos, however, will roll out of Tata’s plant at Pimpri in Maharashtra, followed by its plant at Pantnagar, Uttaranchal. No new dates for the Nano’s release have been announced just yet, but industry insiders say that the first cars should be delivered around January next year.
